The JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur bore witness to yet another away game triumph from FC Pune City courtesy of an Adil Khan goal in the first-half.
In a test of will it was the Stallions that drew first blood. Marcelinho floated in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty box and Jamshedpur defender Andre Bikey could only manage a weak header away which fell kindly for Adil who Khan who slotted it past Subrata Paul -the league debutants conceded for the first time this season. Little did anyone know that the aforementioned would be the only goal of the night at that point.
The home side were in immediate desperation to head into the break with an equalizer and they nearly succeeded in doing the same when Izu Azuka found the back of the net with his header from a cross only to be ruled offside. Despite of all Jamshedpur’s attempts, it was Ranko Popovic’s side that went into the break with the advantage.
Post the interval, the Stallions had two massive chances to take the game beyond the home side’s reach – First, it was Isaac Vanmalsawna who was denied a goal after his shot was blocked by Souvik Chakrabarti in the 47th minute, while a minute later, Diego Carlos was inches away after a snap shot from the left side of the box.
Jamshedpur upped the ante and also found themselves in an advantageous position when the visitors found themselves a man down when Lalchhuanmawia Fanai’s challenge on substitute Ashim Biswas bagged him a second yellow card. Despite all of the Tata Group owned side’s efforts and a numerical advantage in their favor, the Stallions were resilient in defense and clinched the all important three points.
